The Contractor (2022)
The Contractor (2022) is a high-stakes action movie directed by Tarik Saleh for his English-language debut. SFC James Harper, a decorated Green Beret, is discharged from the army due to his use of illegal steroids to treat a debilitating knee injury. Desperate for financial stability, he reaches out to his friend Mike, who works for a private military company under fellow veteran Rusty Jennings’ leadership. Despite receiving lucrative offers from numerous military contracting firms, Harper feels a sense of duty to his country. Mike informs him that Rusty conducts undercover operations for the Department of Defense. Harper is impressed after visiting Mike’s luxurious home and agrees to meet with Rusty. After their meeting, Harper signs on with Rusty and his team for an assignment in Germany. In a gesture of goodwill, Rusty gives Harper’s family $50,000 to help clear their debts.
During the tour, Harper primarily monitors a Middle Eastern scientist by the name of Salim. After analyzing the information, Rusty informs the group that Salim is affiliated with Al-Qaeda and creating a harmful substance. He authorizes them to raid Salim’s lab, gather all his scientific data, and eliminate him. The lab is easily accessible and they obtain the data as instructed. Mike instructs Harper to take care of Salim, who argues that he is simply a scientist working on finding a cure. Despite Salim’s protests, Harper completes the task and sets fire to the lab before leaving. While making their way back to their vehicle for extraction, the team encounters law enforcement and engages in a long shootout which results in the death of their remaining members. Harper manages to save an injured Mike and they seek refuge in a nearby storm drain.
