The American action film, The Expendables 2 (2012), was directed by Simon West and written by Richard Wenk and Sylvester Stallone. Based on a story by Ken Kaufman, David Agosto, and Wenk, the movie follows the team of mercenaries as they are sent to Nepal to rescue a Chinese businessman being held by the Nepalese militia. This elite group is led by Barney Ross and includes Lee Christmas, Yin Yang, Gunner Jensen, Hale Caesar, Toll Road, Billy ‘The Kid’ Timmons – their newest member. During the mission, they also free their captured rival Trent Mauser. After successfully completing their task, Yin Yang departs to escort the businessman back to China. Upon their return to New Orleans, Billy informs Barney of his plan to retire and move in with his girlfriend Sophia by the end of the month. However, their plans are unexpectedly put on hold when CIA agent Mr.
Church assigns Barney a new mission: retrieving an item from a crashed airplane in Albania. To aid them in this task, Church enlists the help of technical expert Maggie Chan. Despite successfully obtaining the item in Albania, the Expendables find themselves ambushed by dangerous criminal Jean Vilain, his associate Hector, and their notorious group known as the Sangs. The team soon discovers that Vilain has captured Billy and is holding him hostage, demanding they hand over the item in exchange for his life. In a devastating turn of events, Vilain fatally stabs Billy and escapes with both the Sangs and the item via helicopter. As Barney mournfully lays Billy to rest and finds a note written to Sophia on his body, he swears to seek revenge upon Vilain for his heinous actions.
