The American action thriller film, The Fugitive (1993), was directed by Andrew Davis and written by Jeb Stuart and David Twohy. After returning home in January 1992, Chicago surgeon Dr. Richard Kimble discovers his wife, Helen, has been murdered by a one-armed assailant who escapes capture. Despite Kimble’s explanation of events, there is no evidence of forced entry and his account is disregarded. Due to a misinterpreted 911 call and Helen’s large life insurance policy, Kimble is falsely accused and wrongfully arrested for the murder. He is convicted and sentenced to death. While being transported to death row, a chaotic escape attempt by fellow prisoners leads to the deaths of two inmates, the driver, and the bus crashing down a ravine towards an oncoming train.
In a daring move, Kimble saves a corrections officer and narrowly escapes the collision. Ninety minutes later, Deputy U.S Marshal Samuel Gerard arrives at the scene with his team to launch a manhunt for Kimble. Kimble covertly enters a hospital to attend to his wounds and obtain new attire. After altering his appearance, he procures an ambulance and skillfully evades the majority of the marshals by taking a detour through a storm drain in a tunnel. Gerard follows suit, but slips and loses his firearm. Kimble discovers it and asserts his innocence by pointing the weapon at Gerard, who remains unfazed. With a spare gun in hand, Gerard traps Kimble near a steep spillway. Undeterred, Kimble leaps and makes his escape. He returns to Chicago and initiates his quest to uncover the true culprit.
