Arriving on Christmas Eve at the Orchid Beach Resort, they settle in and start to enjoy their vacation. But just two days later, on December 26, everything changes as the massive tsunami hits the area. Amidst swirling water, Maria sustains serious injuries while searching for her son Lucas. They eventually find each other and also rescue a toddler named Daniel from the debris.
With little assistance from locals, they make their way to a hospital in Takua Pa where they are separated from Daniel during the journey. At the hospital, Maria asks Lucas to assist in reuniting others with their loved ones while she undergoes surgery for her chest injuries. Meanwhile, Henry and the two boys have also survived and are together. He entrusts Simon and Thomas to another family who are then taken to safety in the mountains by local relief teams. Henry remains behind to search for Maria and Lucas amidst the rubble. While searching, he is injured and alone before being picked up by a kind stranger who drives him to a nearby bus station where other survivors have gathered.
