The Reef (2010)
The Australian survival horror film, The Reef (2010), follows a group of friends on a dangerous voyage to Indonesia. Luke, the captain, invites his companions Matt and Suzie, along with Matt’s sister Kate and sailor Warren, to join him on the trip. However, their journey becomes perilous when they encounter a coral reef which causes their yacht to capsize. As the current pulls them further away from land, Luke makes a plan for them to swim to nearby Turtle Island. Meanwhile, Warren activates an EPIRB device but is informed by Luke that it requires a plane overhead to receive the signal. While Luke suggests swimming to safety on the island, Warren strongly disagrees due to fears of shark-infested waters.
Encouraged by Luke, Suzie and Matt join him in the water to start their journey. At first, Kate declines but later changes her mind, leaving Warren alone on the capsized boat. While stranded, Warren spots a large great white shark circling the yacht. The group soon realizes they are being stalked by the same shark. It makes multiple approaches towards them, even passing by Kate before swimming away. As Kate and Suzie recover from shock with the help of Matt and Luke, Kate loses her bodyboard which she was using for flotation. In an attempt to retrieve it, Matt is attacked by the shark. As night falls, the group once again finds themselves being followed by the shark. Suzie blames Luke for convincing them to swim towards an island that he seemingly cannot locate.
