The Ring (2002) is an American psychological supernatural horror film directed by Gore Verbinski and written by Ehren Kruger. Two teenage girls, Katie and Becca, discuss an urban legend about a cursed videotape that leads to death in seven days. Tragically, Katie is found dead the same night after watching the tape a week prior. At her funeral, her mother asks her sister Rachel, a Seattle-based journalist, to investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding her daughter’s death. During her investigation, Rachel uncovers that all of Katie’s friends also died under peculiar circumstances on the same night. Desperate for answers, Rachel visits the Shelter Mountain Inn where they watched the tape and views its eerie contents.
Shortly after, she receives an ominous phone call from an unknown caller whispering ‘Seven days’. Despite initial skepticism, Rachel soon begins to experience terrifying supernatural events connected to the cursed tape. Rachel enlists the aid of her former romantic partner and video expert, Noah. He watches the recording and duplicates it upon Rachel’s request. The footage reveals a familiar figure: Anna Morgan, a horse breeder who took her own life after her horses inexplicably drowned near Moesko Island. Their son Aidan also gazes at the tape. Being gifted with supernatural talents, he employs them to assist in Rachel’s inquiry. Meanwhile, Rachel goes to Moesko Island to speak with Anna’s husband Richard, as Noah heads to Eola Psychiatric Hospital to examine Anna’s medical records.
