The tenth film in the James Bond series, The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), was released by Eon Productions. Starring Roger Moore as MI6 agent James Bond, it takes its title from Ian Fleming’s novel of the same name. However, the film deviates from the plot of the book. When a British and Soviet submarine disappear, Bond is called upon to investigate. During his journey to receive his briefing, Bond manages to shake off an attack by a group of Soviet agents while skiing in Austria, eliminating one and eluding the rest. The plans for a revolutionary submarine tracking system are discovered in Egypt and Bond crosses paths with Major Anya Amasova – also known as KGB agent Triple X – who is also interested in obtaining the microfilm plans. As they travel through Egypt together, they come across Jaws – a towering assassin with deadly steel teeth – along the way.

Reluctantly joining forces after a truce brokered by their respective British and Soviet superiors, Bond and Amasova uncover evidence pointing to shipping tycoon and elusive scientist Karl Stromberg. While en route to Stromberg’s base in Sardinia by train, Bond saves Amasova from Jaws, transforming their once icy rivalry into a blossoming affection. Disguised as a marine biologist and his wife, they infiltrate Stromberg’s base and make a startling discovery – nine months prior, he had launched a mysterious new supertanker known as the Liparus. As they depart the base, their pursuit is hindered by three adversaries – a henchman on a motorcycle with a rocket sidecar, Jaws in a car, and Naomi, one of Stromberg’s assistants piloting an attack helicopter. But using Q Branch’s latest gadgetry – his trusty Lotus Esprit that converts into a submarine – Bond and Amasova manage to elude them underwater.
