The Weekend Away (2022)
An American thriller film, The Weekend Away (2022), follows London-based new mother, Beth, as she travels to Croatia with her best friend Kate. Beth confides in Kate about the monotony in her marriage and their night out ends with the discovery of Kate’s disappearance. While the police are uninterested, Zain, the helpful taxi driver who drove them to a club, assists Beth in finding her missing friend. As suspicions arise and more clues are discovered, it is revealed that the men from the club were actually hired con men who drugged and robbed their clients. With the help of recovered items and phone records, an official investigation is launched by the police. However, things take a dark turn when Kate’s body is found and incriminating text messages between Rob and her are discovered on Beth’s phone.
Beth is summoned to the police station as the prime suspect. It is later revealed that both Kate and Beth tested positive for drugs, something which Beth had suspected due to her memory loss. She maintains that she was drugged. The authorities question the escorts, who have clean records and deny any involvement in criminal activities. They also confiscate Beth’s passport. In a fit of anger, Beth contacts Rob and confronts him about his affair. Despite being arrested and accused of hiring Zain to kill Kate, Beth stands by her innocence. To her surprise, she discovers that her Airbnb host keeps records of his guests. A review of the footage reveals that on the night Kate went missing, she was put to bed early while the escorts robbed her. She then got into a car to report the incident before returning to the house. Further investigations reveal that the car belongs to Pavić, the same policeman who doubted Beth’s story. In an attempt to uncover more evidence, Beth and Zain interview the driver who drove Kate that night. According to him, Kate asked him to follow two men before he dropped her off at the police station.
