The spy film, The World Is Not Enough (1999), is the nineteenth installment in the James Bond series by Eon Productions. It features Pierce Brosnan as the iconic MI6 agent, James Bond, and is directed by Michael Apted. In Bilbao, Bond meets with Swiss banker Lachaise to retrieve funds for British oil tycoon Sir Robert King at the request of M. While attempting to extract information from Lachaise about an MI6 agent’s assassin, Bond is interrupted by his murder. He manages to escape with the money. At MI6 headquarters in London, it is discovered that the money contains explosives that kill King. Bond pursues the assassin by boat on the Thames until she tries to flee in a hot air balloon at the Millennium Dome.
Despite offering her protection, she chooses to sacrifice her life by detonating the balloon. After tracing the recovered money to Renard, a former KGB agent turned terrorist, Bond is assigned by M to protect Elektra, the daughter of a King whom Renard had previously kidnapped. He travels to Azerbaijan where Elektra is overseeing an oil pipeline’s construction and they are both met with an attack from a hit squad while touring the proposed route. In order to gather information on the attackers, Bond visits Valentin Zukovsky at a casino. There, he becomes suspicious when Elektra loses $1 million in a high stakes game and discovers that her head of security, Sasha Davidov, is secretly working with Renard.
