In the crime film Training Day (2001), directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by David Ayer, ambitious police officer Jake Hoyt is assigned to work with decorated narcotics detective Alonzo Harris for a one-day evaluation. As they patrol in Alonzo’s Monte Carlo, they come across some college kids buying marijuana, which Alonzo takes and encourages Jake to smoke. When Jake refuses, Alonzo threatens him at gunpoint, explaining that rejecting drugs on the streets could result in his death. Eventually, Jake gives in and smokes the laced pipe while Alonzo laughs. Moving on to visit an ex-cop drug dealer named Roger, Jake notices a pair of addicts and steps in while Alonzo watches. Once the girl leaves and Alonzo scares off the addicts, Jake discovers her wallet on the ground and retrieves it.

Later, Alonzo and Jake catch a dealer named Blue with crack rocks and a loaded handgun. Instead of going to jail, Blue rats out his boss Kevin ‘Sandman’ Miller, who is already in prison. With a fake search warrant, Alonzo swipes $40,000 from Sandman’s place. During lunch, they stop by Alonzo’s mistress Sara’s house to see their young son. Afterwards, Alonzo meets with three corrupt high-ranking police officials known as the ‘Three Wise Men’. Since the Russian mafia is after him, they suggest he skip town. But Alonzo insists he can handle the situation and exchanges the stolen money for an arrest warrant. Using this warrant, Alonzo, Jake and four other officers return to Roger’s house and confiscate $4 million. Of course, Alonzo keeps a quarter of it for himself.
