Triple Frontier (2019)
J.C. Chandor directed the American action-adventure film, Triple Frontier (2019), which he co-wrote with Mark Boal. Private military advisor Santiago ‘Pope’ Garcia, a former United States Army Delta Force operator, is stationed in Colombia to combat drug cartels. In need of assistance, an informant named Yovanna seeks out Pope’s help to smuggle herself and her brother out of the country. In exchange for their safe escape, she offers information on the whereabouts of drug lord Gabriel Martin Lorea who resides in a remote jungle house with $75 million in cash. Pope travels to Florida to recruit his ex-Delta Force colleagues: Tom ‘Redfly’ Davis, a realtor; William ‘Ironhead’ Miller, a motivational speaker; his brother Ben ‘Benny’ Miller, an MMA fighter; and Francisco ‘Catfish’ Morales, a pilot. Under the guise of working for the government, Pope convinces the team to seize the money for themselves.
In order to reduce harm, the team enters the house during Lorea’s family’s church service. They overcome the guards, but are unable to locate Lorea or the funds. It dawns on Pope that the money is concealed within the walls, and upon searching, they uncover a much larger sum than expected. Redfly becomes fixated on the fortune and insists on continuing to load it even after their designated departure time has passed. Once loaded into a van, the team conducts a final search for Lorea. He unexpectedly attacks them, injuring Ironhead before being killed by Pope. The team tends to Ironhead’s injury while Lorea’s family and additional guards return to the scene. To eliminate any potential threats, the crew takes out the remaining guards and sets fire to the house before making their getaway with $250 million in cash, leaving Lorea’s family unharmed.
