Underworld: Awakening (2012)

Director Måns Mårlind brought us Underworld: Awakening (2012), an American action horror film. Following the second installment, both the government and society have been made aware of the existence of Vampires and Lycans. In response to this discovery, a program is launched to study and possibly exploit their abilities. However, it quickly devolves into a mass extermination, resulting in Selene and Michael’s capture by humans. Known for her enhanced vampiric traits, Selene is frozen in cryogenic suspension for twelve years. When she finally escapes, she discovers that another test subject has also managed to flee the facility. While on the run, Selene experiences visions from someone else’s perspective.

On her journey, she comes across David, a young vampire who has been searching for her. Along the way, she also encounters Lycans who are on the hunt for someone connected to Selene. Despite their weakened state, Selene fights off the Lycans and finds a frightened girl. Together with David and the girl, they escape in a stolen van, but are soon attacked by three more Lycans. After killing two of them, the remaining one bites the girl’s shoulder before she unexpectedly transforms and kills it. Selene realizes that this is her own daughter with Michael. The girl had managed to find Selene’s cryogenic tank and turn it off during her own escape from the facility.
