X-Men (2000) is an American superhero film directed by Bryan Singer from a screenplay by David Hayter and a story by Singer and Tom DeSanto, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. In 1944 Nazi-occupied Poland, 14-year-old Erik Lehnsherr is separated from his parents upon entering the Auschwitz concentration camp. While trying to reach them, his mutant ability to generate magnetic fields causes metal gates to bend towards him. However, he is knocked out by guards. In the not-too-distant future, U.S. Senator Robert Kelly aims to pass a ‘Mutant Registration Act’ in Congress, which would require mutants to reveal their identities and abilities. Nearby, Telepathic mutant Charles Xavier notices Lehnsherr, now known as ‘Magneto’, attending and fears his reaction to the Registration Act.
In Meridian, Mississippi, 17-year-old Marie inadvertently puts her boyfriend in a coma with her unique ability to absorb the powers and life force of others. Taking on the moniker ‘Rogue’, she flees to Alberta where she encounters Logan, also known as ‘Wolverine’, a mutant with exceptional healing skills and metal claws that protrude from his knuckles. Their journey is disrupted by Sabretooth, a member of Magneto’s Brotherhood of Mutants, but they are rescued by two fellow mutants from Xavier’s X-Men: Cyclops and Storm. After finding refuge at Xavier’s school for mutants in Westchester County, New York, Wolverine and Rogue are invited to stay while Xavier looks into Magneto’s interests in Logan.
