You Only Live Twice (1967)

You Only Live Twice (1967) is the fifth installment in the James Bond series, produced by Eon Productions. Starring Sean Connery as the iconic MI6 agent, this film marks the directorial debut of Lewis Gilbert. When an unidentified spaceship hijacks American NASA spacecraft Jupiter 16 from orbit, tensions rise between the United States and Soviet Union. However, due to the spacecraft’s landing in the Sea of Japan, British intelligence suspects Japanese involvement. To further investigate, James Bond is sent to Tokyo under a new identity after faking his own death and receiving a sea burial courtesy of HMS Tenby. At a sumo tournament, Bond is approached by Aki of the Japanese secret service and introduced to MI6 operative Dikko Henderson. Sadly, before disclosing critical evidence about the incident, Henderson falls victim to a hitman’s bullet.

After defeating the attacker, Bond assumes his identity and is taken to Osato Chemicals in a getaway car. He then overpowers the driver and gains access to the company president’s office safe. With the documents in hand, Bond evades security and is rescued by Aki, who leads him to a deserted subway station. Meanwhile, Bond pursues Aki but falls through a trap door into Tiger Tanaka’s office. The classified documents are analyzed, revealing a photo of the Ning-Po cargo ship and a microdot message indicating that the tourist who took it was eliminated for security reasons.
