The series features actor Matt Ryan, who also played Constantine in the live-action series. It is connected to the 2017 film Justice League Dark. The first half of the series premiered as five individual episodes on CW Seed and was later released as a feature-length film on DVD and Blu-ray. The completed series was then aired as two episodes on CW Seed. This marks the 34th installment in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies collection.
John Constantine awakens from a dream of whispers that seem to be coming from all corners of the world. As he takes in his surroundings, he notices miniature versions of his inner demons, dressed in trench coats, surrounding him in his apartment. These projections attack him, but John skillfully uses magic to absorb them back into his subconscious. Just then, an old friend Chas Chandler pays him a visit after a decade-long absence. Chas reveals that his daughter Trish has mysteriously fallen into a coma and he suspects dark magic to be the cause. John uses his abilities on Trish and discovers that her aura has been tainted. To seek further help for Trish’s condition, he calls upon Asa – also known as the Nightmares Nurse – who is unable to locate Trish’s soul. However, with Asa’s assistance, Trish is briefly able to communicate before a demonic entity takes over and directs John towards an address.
