Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons (2022)

In 2022, Warner Bros. Animation brings us an exciting new addition to the DC Universe Animated Original Movies with Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons (2022). Based on the popular comic series, this animated direct-to-video film follows the story of Kal-El, a young boy sent from his dying planet Krypton to Earth by his parents Jor-El and Lara. However, their ship is not alone as a dangerous alien parasite named Starro has hitched a ride. The spaceship crash lands in Kansas where Kal-El is taken in by Jonathan and Martha Kent and given the name Clark. As he grows older, Clark discovers that he possesses extraordinary abilities and takes on the persona of Superman. He crosses paths with Batman and falls in love with journalist Lois Lane, eventually marrying her and having a son named Jon. Fast forward to present day, where we find Jon still living in Smallville with his parents. He’s frustrated by Superman’s frequent absences but has no idea that his father is actually the legendary hero. That same night, while Superman is off saving Japan from a tsunami, Green Arrow investigates an unusual occurrence at the Justice League Watchtower only to be attacked by a mysterious creature.

The next day, on his birthday, Jon discovers he has heat vision. Clark, who is also known as Superman, takes Jon to Gotham City to seek advice from Batman about Jon’s powers and how they may develop further. During their visit, Jon meets Robin (Damian Wayne), the son of Batman, who is initially impolite. Superman and Batman then leave to investigate a problem at the Watchtower after dropping off Jon in Smallville. Unfortunately, when they reach the Watchtower, they are both infected with Starro spores by Martian Manhunter. As they make their way back to Batman’s headquarters, the possessed Batman tries to infect Damian but the young boy successfully fends it off. After outsmarting his possessed mentor and learning that Starro plans to infect Jon and other members of the Justice League and Teen Titans, Damian races to warn Jon before it’s too late.
