In Batman: Assault on Arkham (2014), an animated superhero film, Batman saves the Riddler from assassination by Amanda Waller, director of A.R.G.U.S. He then delivers Riddler back to Arkham Asylum. In response, Waller captures several criminals including Black Spider and Captain Boomerang and enlists them in the Suicide Squad. They are tasked with breaking into Arkham and retrieving a thumbdrive hidden in Riddler’s cane containing sensitive information about the squad. To ensure their compliance, Waller implants nano-bombs in their necks. After KGBeast tries to leave and is killed by Waller, the remaining members are sent to Gotham City to receive equipment from the Penguin. While staying at the Iceberg Lounge overnight, Harley and Deadshot engage in a brief romantic encounter. The next day, Batman becomes aware of Harley’s presence while searching for a dirty bomb planted by the Joker in Gotham as part of his scheme to return to Arkham.
After being escorted to her cell, Joker relentlessly taunts Harley. In retaliation, she snatches a guard’s gun and tries to take him out. Meanwhile, the rest of the squad successfully gains entry into Arkham by creating a diversion with doctored security footage from the day before. While searching for clues, they come across both the Riddler’s cane and Harley’s mallet, but are disappointed to find that the cane is empty. Unbeknownst to them, Batman has caught onto their ploy and easily subdues them. To throw off suspicion, he disguises himself as Spider and joins their ranks. Amidst the chaos, Frost breaks into the Riddler’s cell on Waller’s orders to eliminate him. However, he surprises everyone by revealing his past affiliation with the squad and offering to disarm their nano-bombs. The squad agrees to his terms, allowing him to escape in return for his help in disarming their bombs.
