Batman: The Long Halloween (2021) is an American two-part animated direct-to-video superhero film, created by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment and inspired by the DC Comics storyline of the same name. On Halloween night, the nephew of Gotham’s notorious mob boss Carmine ‘The Roman’ Falcone, Johnny Viti, is killed by an unknown perpetrator who leaves behind a jack-o-lantern as a calling card. Captain James Gordon of the Gotham City Police Department calls upon District Attorney Harvey Dent and vigilante Batman to assist in solving the murder. After being led by Catwoman to Falcone’s stash of money, Dent chooses to destroy it rather than move it legally through a flip of his infamous coin. In response, Falcone hires Mickey Chen to bomb Dent’s residence in retaliation.

While both Dent and his wife Gilda survive, Dent is hospitalized. Batman tracks down Chen to the sewers, where he runs into Solomon Grundy. After persuading Grundy to spare Chen, Batman takes him to the GCPD. Despite insufficient evidence tying him to the bombing, Gordon and Batman are forced to release Chen. Gordon encourages Batman to improve his detective skills. On Thanksgiving, Falcone reminds his son Alberto that he will not inherit the family business. Meanwhile, Dent escapes from the hospital and meets with Gordon, who provides him with a gun for protection. Later that night, Viti’s murderer strikes again and kills Chen and his associates. On Christmas Eve, Batman and Gordon visit Calendar Man at Arkham Asylum to inquire about “Holiday,” the name given to the infamous killer by now.
