Big Top Scooby-Doo! (2012) is an animated comedy mystery film and the eighteenth installment in the Scooby-Doo direct-to-video series. While in Atlantic City, a werewolf breaks into a jewelry store and steals a ruby necklace, causing an alarm to sound. As the creature flees, it encounters a security guard and two policemen who try to apprehend it but fail. The werewolf seeks refuge in the nearby circus grounds, where Scooby-Doo and his friends are vacationing. Excited by the arrival of the Brancusi Circus, Fred leads the gang to check it out. However, they discover that it is closed until tomorrow but decide to explore when they find an unlocked door. Inside, they meet a man who is pursuing the same werewolf that attacked them. Fortunately, Velma uses a spotlight to scare off the creature before any harm is done.

The man, who introduces himself as Marius Brancusi, thanks the gang and reveals that he is the ringleader of the circus. Marius recently inherited the circus from his uncle and has been working hard to modernize it. He shares with them that for the past few months, a werewolf has been lurking around the circus, scaring off some of his artists and stealing valuable jewelry. In fact, he suspects that the werewolf may actually be one of his own performers. Velma recognizes similarities to a case from Ingolstadt in the 18th century, where a werewolf named Hans collected jewels to transform into a werewolf at will. Impressed by their prowess in solving mysteries, Marius hires the gang to go undercover as circus performers to investigate further.
