DC Showcase: Jonah Hex (2010)

DC Showcase: Jonah Hex (2010) is an animated western superhero film directed by Joaquim Dos Santos and written by western comics writer Joe R. Lansdale, Thomas Jane lends his voice to the disfigured bounty hunter who sets out on a mission to take down a ruthless brothel owner for murdering one of his targets. The story takes place in the Old West, where an outlaw known as Red Doc arrives at a saloon boasting about his skills and seeking pleasure. A prostitute named Madame Lorraine takes notice and lures him upstairs, only to betray him and have her henchmen dispose of his body like she has done with others before. The next day, Jonah Hex enters the same town, causing unease with his appearance. After dealing with a cocky young gunslinger who provokes him, Hex asks the bartender about Red Doc and learns that he has a $5,000 bounty on his head, although the bartender insists he has never seen him before.

After learning about Madame Lorraine from the bar girl, Hex becomes aware of her shady business practices. In order to catch her attention, he buys drinks for everyone in the saloon, but their encounter upstairs takes a dangerous turn when Hex dodges a bullet meant for him by using his hat. He then proceeds to take down Lorraine and her henchmen in a fierce fight, dispatching one with his gun and defeating the other by slamming his face into a hot stove before kicking him over a rail outside the room. The bartender, who was involved in Lorraine’s dubious dealings, tries to eliminate Hex with a shotgun, but is ultimately outmatched and killed. Hex declares that all drinks are now on the house for his fellow patrons.
