Injustice (2021) is an American adult animated superhero film adapted from the popular 2013 video game of the same name. Developed by NetherRealm Studios and based on iconic characters from DC Comics, the film is the latest addition to the DC Universe Animated Original Movies series. On Earth-22, Joker and Harley Quinn commit a heinous act by killing Jimmy Olsen and taking Lois Lane hostage with a stolen nuclear weapon connected to her heart rate monitor. The news of Lois’ capture prompts Batman to seek aid from the Justice League. However, their search is cut short when they find Scarecrow dead and his fear toxin missing. Meanwhile, Superman’s desperation leads him to confront Joker and Harley on a submarine but is ambushed by Doomsday. In a panicked state, he launches Doomsday into space while other heroes apprehend Joker and Harley. It soon becomes apparent that Joker’s deadly concoction of Kryptonite and fear toxin caused Superman to mistakenly kill Lois. The resulting explosion obliterates Metropolis and causes over 11 million casualties. Overwhelmed with grief, Superman seeks vengeance by ending Joker’s life.
As Green Arrow escorts Harley to his hideout for her protection, Superman makes a shocking announcement at the United Nations. He proclaims his determination to bring peace to Earth, even if it means resorting to force. The Justice League is faced with divided opinions on Superman’s actions. While some members, including Wonder Woman, support his new methods, others, like Batman, remain committed to their no-killing principles. Meanwhile, Aquaman, Shazam, and other magic users refuse to take sides and opt out of the conflict. Hal Jordan informs the group that he and his fellow Green Lanterns have been summoned back to Oa. As tensions escalate, the United States government becomes wary of Superman interfering in their affairs and resorts to using Mirror Master to abduct Jonathan Kent as leverage against him. Feeling uncertain about his choices, Superman turns to Wonder Woman for reassurance and she offers her assistance in locating Jonathan.
