Justice League: Throne of Atlantis (2015)

Justice League: Throne of Atlantis (2015) is an animated superhero film that features the renowned DC Comics team. As the 22nd installment of the DC Universe Animated Original Movies and the fourth in the DC Animated Movie Universe, it follows the epic journey of the Justice League. During a routine patrol in the Atlantic, all crew members aboard USS California are killed by an unknown assailant. Colonel Steve Trevor informs Cyborg of this tragedy at S.T.A.R. Labs, prompting him to teleport to the submarine using a Boom tube. There, he discovers handprints on the hull and missing nuclear missiles. Alongside Flash, Shazam, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Batman, Cyborg thoroughly investigates USS California and identifies their enemies as transformed warriors from Atlantis – all under control of their king’s mystical trident. In search for answers, Batman and Superman seek out Atlantis expert Stephen Shin while Prince Orm and Black Manta meet with Orm’s mother, Queen Atlanna. Tensions rise as they debate whether to declare war on humans; with Orm blaming the Justice League for his father’s demise while Queen Atlanna points fingers at Darkseid.

Orm, eager to launch an attack, is stopped by Atlanna’s intervention. She then instructs Mera to bring Arthur Curry, her other son, to Atlantis. To carry out his plan of framing the humans, Black Manta employs a craft that has been cleverly disguised as a US Navy submarine and stolen missiles. Meanwhile, Batman and Superman discover Shin’s demolished home and his destroyed research. Among the ruins, Superman comes across a photo of Curry and a letter revealing that he is half-Atlantean. When Shin meets with Arthur, he is tragically killed by Atlantean soldiers sent by Black Manta. As Arthur is hurled out of his collapsing home, Mera arrives just in time to save him using her hydrokinetic abilities and defeat the soldiers. Incensed by the attack on their city orchestrated by Black Manta, the citizens of Atlantis and Orm demand war. However, Atlanna disagrees with this aggressive approach. After regaining consciousness in underwater Atlantean ruins with gills on his neck, Arthur learns from Mera that Atlanna is his true mother – although her royal status prevented her from being with his father or him in the past.
