Justice Society: World War II (2021) is the latest addition to the DC Universe Animated Original Movies series, produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment. This installment, set during World War II, follows President Roosevelt as he is approached by Colonel Steve Trevor to create a team of superhumans for the United States’ involvement in the war. The Justice Society of America is formed, comprised of Trevor himself, Black Canary, Hawkman, Hourman, Jay Garrick / Flash, and led by Wonder Woman. In present day Metropolis, Barry Allen and Iris West are enjoying a picnic when their leisure time is interrupted by a battle between Superman and Brainiac. Allen quickly transforms into his alter ego, Flash, to assist Superman. In a moment of crisis when Brainiac fires a Kryptonite bullet, Flash taps into the Speed Force for the first time with guidance from an unknown source. As he races through time and space, Allen arrives at what seems to be the past where the JSA is battling against Nazi forces.
Initially uncertain of his loyalty, the JSA soon recognizes Allen as a comrade who hails from the future. As the team prepares to thwart another Nazi attack, Allen escorts Trevor to their base and acquaints himself with the unfamiliar group. Their next mission entails rescuing a codebreaker held captive in a Nazi stronghold, whom Trevor had nabbed for his decoding skills. Despite the potential risks of disrupting time, the heroes realize they can’t succeed without Allen’s aid. With Shakespeare – also known as ‘Clark Kent’, their war correspondent – in tow, they infiltrate the fortress, fend off guards, and uncover prisoners in the dungeons. In an attempted assault on Shakespeare, gunfire proves futile against him, revealing his true identity.
