Lego Scooby-Doo! Blowout Beach Bash (2017) is an American computer-animated adventure comedy film, and the twenty-ninth installment in the direct-to-video series based on the popular Scooby-Doo brand of Lego. After solving a mystery involving a fake mummy, Scooby-Doo and his friends decide to take a break and have some fun. Upon the suggestion of a museum guard, they head towards the Blowout Beach Bingo Bash that has just kicked off. During their journey, Shaggy, Scooby, and Daphne tease Fred and Velma for always being fixated on mysteries and not knowing how to have fun. Determined to prove them wrong, Fred and Velma set their sights on being crowned this year’s ‘Captains of the Bash’. However, upon arrival at the deserted beach and boardwalk, they learn from the owners of Holdout Inn – Rob and Laura – that two ghost pirates had scared away all the partying teenagers earlier in the day and even stole the pirate hats belonging to Chad and Krissy Holdout, who are also Rob and Laura’s children.
Rob Holdout relays the tale of the ghost pirates to the group, filling in details about the notorious Blowout Beach Bingo Bash, the encounter with Captain Brutamore Bash and Pirate Queen Bingo Bell, and the elusive treasure that was said to be involved. Shortly after, a man by the name of Dwight Monkfish shows up at their inn accompanied by law enforcement officials: the sheriff, deputy, and his assistant Mitzi Capaletto. He boldly accuses the Holdouts of being responsible for a recent pirate attack but they firmly deny any involvement. Just then, Chad and Krissy make an appearance and their unkind behavior towards the gang includes mocking Fred’s ascot and hurling insults at Scooby-Doo. The gang asserts their expertise as mystery solvers to the police and offers to lend a hand with their investigation. After some deliberation, Fred assigns Daphne to gather intel from Monkfish at the pier while Shaggy and Scooby are tasked with exploring the ghost pirates’ ship, known as the Salty Brick. However, Velma slyly entices them by falsely mentioning a snack bar on board.
