After successfully solving the mystery, the gang celebrates with a trip to a local malt shop where Shaggy and Scooby win a hamburger eating contest, earning them all a trip to Hollywood. Once they reach their destination, their first stop is Brickton Studios, an old horror film set that is facing closure. Junior, an enthusiastic horror movie fan who works at the studio, offers to show them around. Tagging along is Atticus Fink, a developer interested in buying and demolishing the studio. During their tour of the storage facility in Fink’s truck, they accidentally trigger something that causes Fink to abruptly leave.
After fleeing, they approach manager Chet Brickton for information about their experience. He reveals that all the monsters were once portrayed by Boris Karnak, an actor who passed away years ago. It is suspected that his ghost has returned to haunt the studio through the costumes of his iconic characters. Along with the Headless Horseman, apparitions of a mummy and a zombie have been reported, placing the studio in financial jeopardy and forcing Brickton to consider selling it to Fink. The group volunteers to assist Brickton in uncovering the truth. Their first stop is on the set of a romantic comedy film being produced at the studio, much to Junior’s dismay. Suddenly, the Headless Horseman appears and destroys the set, leaving Brickton feeling hopeless. The gang then offers to help him complete the movie.
