Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004) is a comedy-adventure fantasy film in the American market that was inspired by the beloved animated series, Scooby-Doo. At the start of the film, Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo are all thrilled to be attending the grand opening of an exhibition at the Coolsonian Criminology Museum. The exhibit showcases all their successful past cases, complete with authentic monster costumes on display. The festivities take an unexpected turn when a mysterious figure known as ‘The Evil Masked Figure’ appears and uses the Pterodactyl Ghost to steal two of the costumes. As if that weren’t enough, Heather Jasper Howe, a journalist who happens to be present at the event, takes it upon herself to mock and discredit the gang for their failure to stop the attack.
In response to this criticism, Shaggy and Scooby overhear their friends discussing their tendency to mess things up and decide to step up their game and become real detectives. After realizing their old nemesis is responsible, the gang decides to reexamine past cases. Despite believing that the former Pterodactyl Ghost, Jonathan Jacobo, met his end during a botched prison break, they refuse to rule him out as the perpetrator. They suspect that Jeremiah Wickles, who played the Black Knight Ghost and shared a cell with Jacobo, is involved. During their investigation at Wickles’ estate, they stumble upon a book that contains detailed instructions for creating monsters. While searching for clues, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo come across a note inviting Wickles to the ‘Faux Ghost’ nightclub.
