Scooby-Doo! Abracadabra-Doo (2009) is a direct-to-DVD animated comedy horror mystery fantasy film, and the fourteenth entry in a series of direct-to-video animated films based upon the Scooby-Doo Saturday morning cartoons. One night, while investigating a new case at a factory, Velma receives a call from her mother about her younger sister Madelyn. Apparently, there have been sightings of a giant griffin in the woods near Madelyn’s college for magicians. The gang decides to head to the Whirlen Merlin Magic Academy, an old Irish castle where Madelyn studies. Upon arrival, they meet the academy’s owner, Whirlen Merlin, his brother Marlon acting as both cook and butler, and Crystal, Whirlen’s former stage assistant. They learn that the griffin has been causing trouble at the school. Later on, Madelyn takes Shaggy on a romantic stroll through the gardens to show him an ancient sun-dial. She explains that according to legend, the gryphon was meant to protect the school; however, the gryphon begins to chase them out of the garden.
As the other students depart, the gang takes it upon themselves to attend classes alone. Meanwhile, Calvin Curdles, an esteemed ice-cream mogul, persistently tries to buy Whirlen’s castle. The group promises to investigate whether or not Curdles is linked to the Gryphon’s strange occurrences. However, while searching for clues, Velma and Daphne come across a hidden passage leading to the attic of the school. There, they stumble upon Alma Rumblebuns, the head maid who used to be in a relationship with Calvin Curdles. At the same time, Shaggy and Scooby accidentally enter the castle’s special effects room and make quite a mess with some spilled chemicals creating a thick fog. Meanwhile, Madelyn uncovers an ancient book detailing the history of O’Flannery’s staff – a powerful object rumored to control the gryphon. Despite Amos’ warning that this island where the staff can be found is haunted by a Banshee, the gang fearlessly journey there and successfully retrieve the artifact from O’Flannery’s crypt. However, they are met with fierce opposition from the Banshee and must narrowly escape with their lives intact.
