Scooby-Doo and The Goblin King (2008)

Scooby-Doo and The Goblin King (2008) is a direct-to-DVD animated film that falls within the popular series of Scooby-Doo direct-to-video productions from Warner Bros. Animation (though it does feature a Hanna-Barbera logo at the end). The plot centers on the Mystery, Inc. gang who attend the annual Coolsville Halloween carnival. However, their evening takes an unexpected turn when they encounter ‘The Amazing Krudsky’, a resident magician who refuses to let Scooby see his show after an unfortunate incident. Angered, Shaggy and Scooby expose Krudsky as a fake during one of his performances, causing him to seek revenge on them. As they are kicked out of the carnival, the group decides to go trick-or-treating instead. Meanwhile, Krudsky makes a surprising discovery in his tent – he finds an entry about the powerful Goblin Scepter in a spellbook that can be used with fairy magic to control Halloween.

Krudsky comes up with an idea to acquire the scepter and use it to take over the world. Willow, in an attempt to play a prank, accidentally knocks herself out. Krudsky takes advantage of the situation and absorbs her magical abilities, transforming himself into a legitimate magician. Meanwhile, as Shaggy and Scooby make their final stop for trick-or-treating, they stumble upon a creepy-looking house that claims to be a ‘real magic shop’. A sudden thunderstorm strikes, causing the two to become terrified. The owner of the shop, Mr. Gibbles (voiced by Wallace Shawn), reveals that magic does indeed exist. Before they know it, Krudsky enters the shop in pursuit of Willow and ends up capturing her. He then turns Mr. Gibbles into a rabbit and steals all of the magic equipment before making his escape. Mr. Gibbles informs Shaggy and Scooby about Krudsky’s evil scheme and shows them a vision of him turning their friends into monsters – leaving them both horrified.
