Scooby-Doo and the Legend of the Vampire (2003) is an American direct-to-video animated adventure film, and the fifth installment in a series of movies based on the classic Scooby-Doo cartoons. The Mystery Inc. gang find themselves aboard a cruise ship headed to Australia for a much-needed vacation. After exploring Sydney and its famous Bondi Beach, they stumble upon a flyer advertising a music festival at Vampire Rock. Intrigued, they decide to venture into the outback to check it out. Along their journey, they encounter various native animals and learn about the legend of the Yowie Yahoo, an Australian vampire said to inhabit Vampire Rock. As they approach the location in their trusty Mystery Machine, Shaggy and Scooby catch sight of the Yowie Yahoo in the forest. With curiosity piqued, they follow some eerie music deep into the woods, where they reunite with an old friend – the Hex Girls, who have become close companions since their previous encounter in Scooby-Doo and the Witch’s Ghost.
They also come across the show’s managers, Daniel and Russell, along with Daniel’s grandfather, Malcolm. Despite Malcolm’s disapproval of the festival, he warns Daniel about recent events before driving away. It is revealed that most of the performers have left due to Matt Marvelous’ kidnapping by vampires. The duo also shares information about last year’s performers, Wildwind – known as Dark Skull, Stormy Weather, and Lightning Strikes – who are believed to have been turned into vampires by the infamous Yowie Yahoo. Fred suggests entering the competition as a band in order to attract the Yowie Yahoo and uncover its true identity. As they practice (not so skillfully), they are approached by Jasper Ridgeway and his band, the Bad Omens – King, Queen, and Jack – in a golf cart. Upon learning that Jasper used to manage Wildwind, suspicion grows among the group that he may have orchestrated his own band’s transformation into vampires to eliminate their competition.
