Scooby-Doo and the Loch Ness Monster (2004) is a direct-to-video animated comedy mystery that follows the usual format of the popular Saturday morning cartoons. The beloved Mystery, Inc. crew embarks on a journey to Scotland’s Loch Ness to visit Daphne Blake’s ancestral home, Blake Castle, alongside her cousin Shannon. As luck would have it, their arrival coincides with the annual Highland games held on the castle grounds and featuring various traditional Scottish sports. However, Shannon reveals that the castle has been plagued by sightings of the infamous Loch Ness Monster. Her claims are backed by Del Chillman, a self-proclaimed monster enthusiast and amateur cryptozoologist, as well as Professor Fiona Pembrooke, who has devoted her career to proving the existence of this elusive creature.
On the opposite side of the argument are Colin and Angus Haggart, local competitors in the games. Their father Lachlan and Sir Ian Locksley, head judge of the games and director of the Scottish natural history museum, also hold opposing views. Locksley and Pembrooke have a mutual hatred for each other due to a previous working relationship at his museum where she was fired for focusing too much on the Loch Ness Monster’s trail. As Scooby-Doo and Shaggy search for the kitchen that night, they accidentally cause chaos on the playing field while being chased by the monster. This catches Locksley’s attention and he becomes furious when Scooby and Shaggy claim to have almost been victims of the Loch Ness Monster. He demands that Shannon fix the damage immediately or risk downgrading the highland games to a miniature golf tournament. To everyone’s surprise, Velma discovers that the monster tracks lead into town instead of towards the loch.
