Scooby-Doo and the Monster of Mexico (2003) is an animated adventure film, the sixth in a series based on the popular Saturday morning cartoon. Fred’s pen-pal, Alejo Otero, invites him and the gang to visit his family in Veracruz, Mexico. Despite some initial hesitation, Mystery Inc. ultimately decides to take up Alejo’s offer. However, their plans are disrupted when a mysterious creature begins terrorizing the town and is nicknamed ‘El Chupacabra’ by the locals. Meanwhile, Alejo introduces them to his family, including his wife Sofia, mother Doña Dolores, brother Luis, and Luis’s fiancée Charlene from the US. As they enjoy a meal together at Alejo’s luxurious hotel, Diego Fuente – an acquaintance from their late father’s business dealings – arrives to make an offer on the hotel. But both brothers refuse to sell.
Fuente departs and the family takes refuge inside as a brutal storm arrives. While indoors, Alejo is compelled to disclose to the gang about El Chupacabra. He explains that they do not have many guests due to the creature scaring them away. During the night, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo are startled by mysterious noises and a loud growl, causing them to flee from their cottage in panic. Upon discovering strange footprints outside their window, Fred determines that there is a mystery that needs solving. The following day, the gang and the Otero brothers embark on a quest to find El Chupacabra. Daphne interviews the locals, but unfortunately, none of them can provide any leads. Upon returning to the Mystery Machine, they are shocked to find a threat written in Spanish, warning them to back off from solving the mystery. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, the gang decides to continue their search at night.
