Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf (1988)

The animated comedy horror film, Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf (1988), was produced by Hanna-Barbera for syndication. Annually, Count Dracula’s castle in Transylvania hosts a ‘Monster Road Rally’ where classic Hollywood monsters like Frankenstein’s monster and his wife Repulsa, gather to compete in a road race similar to Wacky Races. The winner is awarded the coveted ‘Monster of the Year’ title and other macabre prizes, announced by Dracula’s wife and co-host, Vanna Pira. However, this year there is a problem. The Wolfman has retired to Florida and will not be participating. Fearing cancellation of the race, Dracula’s servant Wolfgang suggests a solution: according to an old spellbook, once every five centuries on three consecutive nights starting tomorrow night, the full moon can turn a human into a werewolf.

The next potential werewolf is none other than Shaggy Rogers, who recently won a car race with the help of Scooby-Doo and his nephew Scrappy-Doo. In order to bring him to his castle for the upcoming race, Dracula sends his hunchbacked minions, known as ‘The Hunch Bunch’, to America. Despite their efforts on the first two nights, they are unable to turn Shaggy into a werewolf. However, on the final night while Shaggy and his girlfriend Googie are at a drive-in movie, the Hunch Bunch successfully exposes him to moonlight by opening the sunroof of his customized race car. This causes Shaggy to transform into a werewolf.
