Scooby-Doo and the Samurai Sword (2008) is an animated film that follows the beloved mystery-solving gang as they travel to Tokyo. At a museum of ancient history, Mr. Takagawa and Kenji witness the resurrection of the evil Black Samurai, an ancient warrior whose armor was meant to be displayed in the museum’s newest exhibit. When Daphne receives an invitation to compete in a martial arts tournament at Miss Mirimoto’s prestigious academy, the gang joins her on their adventure. While there, they meet Daphne’s friend Miyumi, who explains the challenges of winning the tournament and being accepted into the school. During her battles, Daphne impresses Miss Mirimoto and even catches Mr. Takagawa’s attention when he warns them about the Black Samurai’s return and their search for a valuable scroll at the academy. That night, while enjoying a feast, ninja warriors attack and steal what they believe is the scroll but turns out to be a copy. Luckily, Mirimoto reveals that she had kept the real one safe all along.
Mr. Takagawa informs the gang that the Black Samurai was a warrior from long ago who sought the help of famed swordsmith Masamune to create a powerful mystical sword. However, Masamune required a full year for the task. Muramasa, an apprentice of Masamune’s with a dark side, offered to make a sword in half the time and the Samurai agreed. Unfortunately, Muramasa’s malice seeped into the blade and when the Samurai wielded it, he was consumed by evil and transformed into the Black Samurai, wielding the Sword of Doom. Meanwhile, Masamune completed his creation – the Sword of Fate – which he gave to the legendary Green Dragon. In a fierce battle in the sky, the Green Dragon emerged victorious and trapped the Black Samurai within the Sword of Doom. The Dragon then hid this cursed sword and left clues to its location in a riddle on the Destiny Scroll.
