Scooby-Doo Goes Hollywood (1979) is an animated special featuring the beloved cast of Hanna-Barbera’s Saturday-morning show, Scooby Doo. The gang has gained immense popularity thanks to their successful crime-solving adventures and now have their own TV series in Hollywood, California. One fateful day, during a chase with ‘The Crabby Creature of Creepy Crag’, Scooby and Shaggy find themselves launched into a catapult. Tired of their repetitive routine, they decide to pursue fame as real movie stars. They pitch their pilot film titled How Scooby Won the West to the network’s president, C.J., where Sheriff Scooby and Deputy Shaggy face off against the infamous Jesse Rotten. However, C.J. dismisses the idea as a joke and laughs them out of his office. Upon discovering that Scooby will be leaving the show to pursue his acting dreams, the rest of the gang is deeply saddened and protests while Shaggy tries to convince them of Scooby’s potential success. Despite his efforts, they remain doubtful.
At the local roller-skating rink, Shaggy captures footage for another pilot episode while Lavonne and Scooby hit the rink together. Unfortunately, their skating skills are less than impressive, causing multiple accidents and even colliding with Shaggy while he films. As the rest of the gang watches, they start to worry that Scooby is embarrassing himself and discuss convincing him to leave and return to his previous show. However, Shaggy is determined and presents C.J. with another film featuring ‘the Scoob’ meeting ‘the Groove’ (a clear parody of the Fonz) at Harold’s Drive-In. After seeing this, C.J. agrees that Scooby should stick to his own show. Despite this suggestion, Scooby rejects it and attempts to mingle with famous people instead, but it ends in disappointment.
