Shaggy inherits a Southern plantation from his late uncle Colonel Beauregard. However, upon arrival, they are warned by Sheriff Rufus Buzby that the estate is haunted and should be avoided. Despite his warning, they continue on and encounter a variety of spooks including a ghost witch, Headless Horseman, ghost wolf, and the alleged ghost of Colonel Beauregard himself who warns them to leave or face consequences. Along the way, they are also interrupted by Sheriff Buzby’s call about an escaped circus ape.
Upon encountering the unnerving servant Farquard, the gang learns of a large sum of jewels hidden on the estate, which he claims belongs to him and not Shaggy. Despite wanting to leave, Shaggy’s truck gets stuck in quicksand, forcing them to stay the night. With supernatural presences looming, Scrappy suggests enlisting help from a group known as The Boo Brothers. To their surprise, these ghostbusters are actually ghostly versions of The Three Stooges, who struggle to rid the estate of its hauntings. Later on, Shaggy meets Sadie Mae Scroggins and her brother Billy Bob, who hold a grudge against the colonel due to an old family feud. Upon discovering that Shaggy is related to the colonel, Sadie develops feelings for him while Billy Bob becomes more hostile.
