Superman/Batman: Public Enemies (2009)

An American animated film Superman/Batman: Public Enemies (2009) is based on the DC Comics story arc of the same name from the Superman/Batman comic series. Written by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness, the film follows Superman and Batman as they team up to stop a meteorite from hitting Earth. This also involves taking down Lex Luthor, who has been elected President during a nationwide economic depression. Despite Luthor’s success in reviving the economy and forming a team of government-employed superheroes, including Captain Atom, Katana, Black Lightning, Power Girl, Starfire, and Major Force, Superman and Batman still remain suspicious of him. When it is discovered that a Kryptonite meteor is heading to Earth, Luthor decides to destroy it using nuclear missiles instead of seeking assistance from other superheroes. In an attempt to make peace with Superman, Luthor invites him to Gotham City for a meeting but instead sets up a battle with Metallo. The fight ends with Metallo being killed by an unknown attacker after injuring both Superman and Batman.

During a televised appearance, Luthor falsely accuses Superman of murdering Metallo and offers a large sum of money for his capture. To gather information on the incident, Batman and Superman raid S.T.A.R. Labs where they discover that Metallo was actually killed by a radioactive blast disguised as heat vision. As the two heroes are attacked by a group of villains seeking to claim the bounty, they effortlessly defeat most of them while Captain Atom uses a powerful energy blast to subdue the others. Luthor’s team of superheroes, with the exception of Power Girl who is conflicted, try to apprehend Batman and Superman. However, Superman creates a twister using his super-speed and the trio manages to escape.
