Superman: Red Son (2020)

Superman: Red Son (2020) is the 38th addition to the DC Universe Animated Original Movies and follows the story of Superman, a beloved DC Comics character. Set in 1946 Soviet Union, a young boy is bullied by a group of kids until he is saved by a girl named Svetlana. Impressed by his superhuman abilities, Svetlana encourages him to use his powers for the greater good. Fast forward to 1955, where the Soviet government has created propaganda around a powerful alien known as the “Soviet Superman” under Stalin’s command. In response, U.S President Dwight D. Eisenhower enlists Lex Luthor to develop a defense against him. Meanwhile, as part of Luthor’s plan, Superman stops a satellite from crashing into Metropolis and journalist Lois Lane secures an interview with him. During this encounter, she reveals confidential information that leads Superman to discover a hidden gulag protected by lead.

In his journey, he encounters a young boy amidst a swarm of bats and Svetlana, who is on her deathbed after being imprisoned by Stalin for knowing his true identity. Fueled by anger, Superman takes down Stalin once and for all. This act leads to him taking over as the leader of the Soviet Union, with a promise to use his powers for good and promote communist ideals worldwide. He brings an end to the Korean War and tears down the Berlin Wall, built by Western powers in an attempt to stop him. Moreover, he also forms a strong bond with Princess Diana / Wonder Woman from Themyscira. However, Luthor shocks the world by revealing his latest creation, ‘Superior Man’, a clone of Superman sent to challenge him.
