The Death of Superman (2018)

The Death of Superman (2018) is an action-packed animated film, created by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment. It’s based on the iconic comic book storyline, making it the second animated adaptation to detail the epic confrontation between Superman and Doomsday. Serving as the 33rd installment in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies and the eleventh in the DC Animated Movie Universe, this film follows Superman as he continues to be a beloved hero in Metropolis and beyond. After saving the mayor from Intergang’s clutches, Superman takes their technology to S.T.A.R. Labs for examination. During an interview with Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane, he also reflects on his family history and how he came to Earth. Later that night, Lois meets Clark Kent’s adoptive parents but leaves feeling frustrated about her lack of knowledge about his personal life. At S.T.A.R. Labs, Drs. Silas Stone and John Irons identify the technology as part Apokoliptian and part Earth-made, prompting Superman to suspect that his longtime enemy Lex Luthor may be involved- although Luthor denies any connection.

Following a meteor impact in the ocean, teams from both Luthor and Atlantis are dispatched to investigate. However, they are met with aggression from an unknown entity in a containment suit. Striking out in a rage, the being heads towards Metropolis, causing chaos and harm until the arrival of the Justice League. Despite their valiant efforts, the heroes are quickly overpowered by the being, resulting in injuries for Hawkman, Green Lantern, and Flash. Aquaman and Cyborg are also taken down before the almost fatal attack on Martian Manhunter. Seeking solace at Superman fan Bibbo Bibbowski’s restaurant, Clark takes a moment to reveal his identity as Superman and profess his love for Lois before joining his fellow members of the Justice League. The being then enters Metropolis and engages in a perilous battle with Wonder Woman until Superman steps in and destroys its suit using his heat vision.
