Wonder Woman (2009)

An American animated superhero film Wonder Woman (2009) centers on the titular superheroine. It draws inspiration from George Pérez’s reinterpretation of the character, specifically his Gods and Mortals arc featured in the character’s second volume in 1987. The story follows a fierce race of warrior women known as the Amazons, who engage in a battle against Ares, the god of war, and his army. During the confrontation, Queen Hippolyta of the Amazons kills Ares’ soldier Thrax, whom he had forced her to conceive with him. However, before she can deliver the final blow to Ares himself, Zeus intervenes and instead binds him with magic bracers that strip him of his powers to incite violence and death. As recompense for their years of servitude to Ares, Zeus grants the Amazons an eternal home on Themyscira and bestows Hippolyta with a daughter named Diana, created from sand and brought to life with her own blood.

A millennium later, Diana is discontent with her life on Themyscira and yearns to travel beyond its borders. Steve Trevor, an American fighter pilot, crash-lands his plane on the island after being shot down in a dogfight. Their initial encounter results in a physical altercation, but eventually he is brought before the Amazons. Utilizing a magical golden lasso for interrogation, Hippolyta determines that he poses no threat. In accordance with their customs, it is decided that an emissary should be appointed to ensure his safe return to the world of Man. Diana volunteers for the task, but her mother raises concerns about her lack of experience in dealing with external dangers. As an alternative, Diana is assigned to watch over Ares’ prison cell while her studious yet kind-hearted friend Alexa offers to take her place.
