Wonder Woman: Bloodlines (2019)

An animated film, Wonder Woman: Bloodlines (2019), features the powerful superheroine as the main character. It is part of the DC Animated Movie Universe, and marks the 37th addition to the DC Universe Animated Original Movies. The story follows Princess Diana of Themyscira, who saves Captain Steve Trevor from an attack by Parademons in 2013. Using her purple healing ray, Diana tends to Steve’s injuries before Hippolyta, her mother and queen of the Amazons, imprisons him for breaking their “no men” rule. Despite Hippolyta’s orders, Diana frees Steve after seeing a vision of a coming invasion caused by his arrival. This act causes Hippolyta to disown her daughter. Diana and Steve make their way to Washington D.C., where they meet geologist Julia Kapatelis through Etta Candy. During their time there, Diana forms a bond with Julia’s daughter Vanessa, much to Vanessa’s jealousy. Determined to protect man’s world as the superheroine known as ‘Wonder Woman’, Diana decides to remain there permanently.

Five years later, Julia reaches out to Diana and Steve for assistance in tracking down Vanessa. It turns out that she has stolen an important artifact from her boss, Veronica Cale, with plans to sell it to the notorious Doctor Poison. Even with the three of them working together, they are met with resistance from Poison’s army and Giganta, who has enhanced herself with a serum. Despite their challenges, they are able to defeat Giganta. However, during the commotion, Julia is caught in a crossfire and fatally shot. Tragically, Poison manages to escape with the artifact. In her grief, Vanessa blames Diana for her mother’s death and flees. Later on, while paying her respects at her mother’s grave, Vanessa is recruited by Doctor Poison and Doctor Cyber and transformed into Silver Swan.
