Scooby-Doo! and the Beach Beastie (2015), the sixth direct-to-DVD special from Warner Bros. Animation, is based on the beloved Scooby-Doo Saturday morning cartoons. Lately, Fred has become obsessed with nets, using them in his plans to catch the monsters that he and Mystery Inc. encounter. To take a break from it all, Scooby and the gang head to Florida for a vacation at Daphne’s uncle Sandy’s hotel. However, their relaxation is short-lived as they soon discover that a shape-shifting sea monster is terrorizing the hotel and stealing jewelry. Despite Fred’s usual method of using nets to capture monsters, it proves ineffective against this creature. In an effort to help him overcome his net fixation, Daphne suggests spending time in areas without nets – easier said than done since the lobby and beach are covered in them. Meanwhile, Velma visits Kurt’s neighboring hotel where he sees an opportunity amidst the chaos caused by the sea monster hysteria as guests flock to his hotel instead of Sandy’s.
Unfortunately, the popular holographic water show at Kurt’s hotel is closed for repairs, causing disappointment among guests. The company in charge of fixing it, Brownstone Industries, seems to be taking an excessive amount of time to complete the repairs. As a result, Shaggy becomes downcast when Scooby starts spending all his time with another dog named Shana. Seeking solace, Shaggy finds comfort in Kiki Brownstone, the owner of Shana and wife of Grafton Brownstone. Interestingly enough, Kiki also feels lonely as her dog is preoccupied with Scooby and her husband is nowhere to be found. Later that evening, during a lively party, the hotel falls under attack once again by the elusive monster who appears to be drawn to Kiki’s necklace. In an attempt to lure the creature away from Kiki, the gang uses her necklace as bait and eventually notices a human figure at its center.
