Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

The American superhero film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), is based on the popular character from Marvel Comics. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the movie takes place two years after the Battle of New York. Steve Rogers now works for the espionage agency S.H.I.E.L.D. in Washington, D.C., as he tries to adjust to modern society. During a mission with Agent Natasha Romanoff and the S.T.R.I.K.E. team, led by Agent Brock Rumlow, they come across a hijacked S.H.I.E.L.D. vessel with hostages taken by pirates led by Georges Batroc. It is then that Rogers learns that Romanoff has another task: to retrieve data from the ship’s computers. Later at S.H.I.E.L.D.’s headquarters known as the Triskelion, Director Nick Fury briefs Rogers about Project Insight – a project involving three linked Helicarriers and spy satellites designed to eliminate threats before they arise. However, when Fury is unable to decode Romanoff’s data and becomes suspicious of Insight, he seeks help from Alexander Pierce, senior S.H.I.E.L.D official and Secretary of Internal Security, in delaying the project.

While heading to meet Maria Hill, Fury’s attacked by assailants led by the Winter Soldier. After escaping to Rogers’ apartment, he warns him that S.H.I.E.L.D. is compromised and then gets shot by the Winter Soldier. However, before dying in surgery, Fury hands Rogers a flash drive containing ship data. Hill later recovers his body and Pierce calls Rogers to the Triskelion the next day. When Rogers refuses to share Fury’s information, Pierce labels him a fugitive and S.T.R.I.K.E. starts hunting him. Desperate for help, Rogers meets with Romanoff and they use the data to uncover a secret S.H.I.E.L.D. hideout in New Jersey. There, they activate a supercomputer housing Arnim Zola’s preserved consciousness. Zola reveals that he was captured by Rogers during WWII but was later recruited into S.H.I.E.L.D., where he secretly revived Hydra within their ranks. This allowed them to spread chaos worldwide, forcing humanity to give up their freedom for security, all while using the Winter Soldier as their top assassin.
