Daredevil (2015–2018), a Netflix series based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name and set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, follows Matt Murdock, who gained unique and powerful senses after a chemical spill blinded him as a child. By day, he uses his abilities as a lawyer at his own firm, while at night he patrols Hell’s Kitchen as Daredevil, bringing justice to those who need it most. This series was also the first of its kind on Netflix and eventually led to the crossover miniseries The Defenders.

Season 1. After ‘the incident’, criminals of various backgrounds – including the Russian mafia, Yakuza, and Chinese – have taken advantage of Hell’s Kitchen’s vulnerable state. But one man stands against them – Matt Murdock, a blind individual with heightened senses due to an accident in his youth. By night, he dons a costume to fight crime while also establishing a law firm with his friend Foggy Nelson. In their first case, they represent Karen Page, a secretary at construction company Union Allied who has been wrongly accused of murder after stumbling upon evidence of pension embezzlement. With Murdock’s help, Page is exonerated and protected from an assassin before the scandal is exposed by journalist Ben Urich at The New York Bulletin.

Season 2. Following Wilson Fisk’s arrest, Nelson & Murdock becomes renowned in Hell’s Kitchen, but gains limited new clients due to the high cost of their services. Karen Page handles their financial struggles, while Foggy and Matt grapple with Daredevil’s sudden rise in popularity and the increased risks it poses to their partnership, firm, and loved ones. In the midst of this, a newcomer enters Hell’s Kitchen, systematically taking out rival gangs on their turf. The sole survivor, Grotto, hires Nelson & Murdock as his legal representation. This leads Daredevil to face off against the assailant in a life-threatening encounter that results in him being shot at close range and thrown off a building.

Season 3. Following a severe injury while fighting as ‘Daredevil’, Matt Murdock is rescued from the New York City sewer system by a compassionate taxi driver. He is then brought to Father Paul Lantom, who entrusts him into the care of Sister Maggie at Saint Agnes Orphanage, his childhood home. During his recovery, Matt struggles with his faith and ultimately decides to continue risking his life as Daredevil rather than returning to civilian life. Despite being badly beaten during a rescue mission, Matt refuses to give up and trains vigorously to regain his strength. However, after chasing off an attack and losing the upper hand against his assailants, they spare him after no longer seeing him as a threat.
