The show Jessica Jones (2015–2019), developed by Melissa Rosenberg for Netflix, is an adaptation of the Marvel Comics character. It exists in the same universe as the Marvel films and is one of several series leading up to The Defenders crossover event. Jessica, a superpowered individual, had a short-lived stint as a superhero until Kilgrave, her arch-nemesis, tragically drove her to take a life. She then changes careers to become a private detective. However, when Kilgrave resurfaces, Jessica must once again confront him to put an end to his reign of terror.

Following a brief and traumatic stint as a superhero, Jessica Jones has been working to rebuild both her personal life and her career. As a sharp-tongued private detective in the gritty streets of Hell’s Kitchen, New York City, she grapples with intense self-loathing and PTSD while battling demons from all angles. Despite her inner struggles, Jessica puts her unique abilities to use as an unlikely defender for those in need – particularly if they’re able to pay for her services. One such case involves a missing girl who may have fallen victim to mind control, adding an extra layer of darkness to Jessica’s already complicated mission.
