Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)

An American superhero film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), based on Marvel Comics’ character Doctor Strange, is a sequel to the 2016 film and the 28th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). As America Chavez and a version of Stephen Strange traverse through different universes in search of the Book of Vishanti, they are pursued by a demon. During their escape, Strange is fatally wounded and Chavez unknowingly opens a portal that brings them to Earth-616. In this universe, they are rescued by its version of Strange with assistance from Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme. Chavez reveals that she possesses the ability to travel through various universes, making her a target for powerful beings. After identifying witchcraft runes in their journey, Strange turns to Wanda Maximoff for help but discovers that she is behind the attacks. In an attempt to regain her children Billy and Tommy, Maximoff seeks control over Chavez’s powers. When Strange refuses to hand over Chavez, Maximoff launches an attack on Kamar-Taj, resulting in the deaths of many sorcerers.

Chavez and Strange accidentally end up on Earth-838 while Maximoff uses the Darkhold to control her counterpart, who leads a suburban life with her own Billy and Tommy. A sorceress sacrifices herself to destroy the Darkhold and end the control. In a fit of rage, Maximoff forces Wong to take her to Mount Wundagore, an ancient temple that is forbidden. While seeking aid, Strange and Chavez are captured by Earth-838’s Sorcerer Supreme, Karl Mordo. They are taken before the Illuminati, consisting of Mordo, Peggy Carter, Blackagar Boltagon, Maria Rambeau, Reed Richards, and Charles Xavier. The group reveals that their universe’s Strange used the Darkhold recklessly in an attempt to defeat Thanos, causing an “incursion” that threatened to destroy their universe. Once Thanos was defeated, they had to eliminate their Strange to prevent further harm. Mordo fears that Earth-616’s Strange may be just as dangerous but Maximoff successfully reestablishes her control at Mount Wundagore and takes over her counterpart in Earth-838 before judgment can be passed.
