Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023) is an American superhero film from Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, serving as the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017). Set at their new base on Knowhere, the Guardians are ambushed by Adam Warlock – a Sovereign fighter created by High Priestess Ayesha – seeking vengeance for their thievery. The encounter leaves Rocket gravely injured and with continued attempts to heal him proving fruitless, thanks to Orgocorp’s implanted kill switch. Desperate to save his life, the team ventures to Orgocorp’s headquarters in search of an override code. As Rocket lays comatose, his memories start to resurface – recalling his own childhood as a raccoon who was experimented on by Orgocorp’s leader, the High Evolutionary, in pursuit of creating a utopia known as Counter-Earth for genetically altered animal-human hybrids known as Humanimals.
Rocket formed a bond with his fellow Batch 89 test subjects, including the otter Lylla, the walrus Teefs, and the rabbit Floor. The High Evolutionary was impressed by Rocket’s increasing intelligence and utilized his expertise to fix a problem in later Humanimal batches. However, the High Evolutionary grew envious of Rocket’s intellect and made plans to take his brain for further research before exterminating the obsolete Batch 89. In an attempt to save his friends, Rocket faced off against the High Evolutionary, who callously killed Lylla and mocked Rocket for showing emotion. This caused Rocket to become furious and attack the High Evolutionary, but unfortunately in the chaos, Teefs and Floor were slain by the High Evolutionary’s henchmen. In order to escape, Rocket fled in a spaceship. In the present time, Gamora – now part of the Ravagers – assists the Guardians as they infiltrate Orgocorp.
