The American superhero film, Iron Man 2 (2010), is based on the beloved Marvel Comics character. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Paramount Pictures, it gained widespread attention in Russia when billionaire Tony Stark publicly revealed his identity as Iron Man. This revelation caught the eye of Ivan Vanko, whose father had recently passed away after working for Stark Industries. In response, Vanko began constructing a miniature version of Stark’s arc reactor. As time passed, Stark became a media sensation, refusing to hand over his armored suits to the government despite pressure to do so. To honor his father Howard’s legacy, he reinstated the Stark Expo in New York City’s Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. However, things took a turn for the worse when he discovered that the palladium core in his arc reactor was slowly poisoning him with no known replacement available.
Growing more reckless and hopeless about his impending death, he kept this information to himself and appointed his assistant Pepper Potts as CEO of Stark Industries while hiring Natalie Rushman to take her place as his assistant. At the Monaco Historic Grand Prix, Stark faces Vanko, who attacks him with electrified whips powered by his arc reactor. Despite defeating Vanko in his armor, it is left heavily damaged. Vanko admits he wanted to prove Iron Man’s vulnerability to the world. This impresses Stark’s rival Justin Hammer, who helps fake Vanko’s death and break him out of jail. Hammer then asks Vanko to create a new line of armored suits to overshadow Stark. However, Vanko chooses instead to focus on unmanned drones. On what he believes will be his last birthday celebration, a drunken Stark dons the Iron Man suit once again.
