Scooby-Doo and the Witch’s Ghost (1999) is an American direct-to-video animated film that combines elements of supernatural horror and comedy. It is the second in a series of direct-to-video films based on the popular Scooby-Doo Saturday morning cartoons. After renowned horror writer Ben Ravencroft helps Velma Dinkley and Mystery Inc. with a case at a museum, he invites them to his hometown of Oakhaven, Massachusetts. Upon arrival, they discover that Mayor Corey has turned the town into a tourist spot centered around the ghost of Sarah Ravencroft, an ancestor of Ben’s who was believed to be a witch and executed by Puritan townspeople in 1657. However, Ben disagrees with this portrayal and reveals that Sarah was actually a Wiccan who used natural remedies to heal those in need. He has spent years searching for her medical journal to prove her innocence.

As Scooby-Doo and Shaggy Rogers flee from the ghost of Sarah, the gang becomes intrigued by an all-female gothic rock band known as the Hex Girls. Led by Sally ‘Thorn’ McKnight, the group catches the attention of Fred Jones and Daphne Blake. While following Thorn, they observe what appears to be a ritual and jump to conclusions, believing the band members to be witches. However, it is later discovered that Thorn’s father, Mr. McKnight, is actually behind the ghostly appearances. As Velma reveals this information, Thorn explains that her supposed ritual was simply an herbal remedy for her vocal cords and shares that she has a small connection to Wicca through her heritage. All of this was part of a publicity stunt organized by Mr. McKnight in hopes of boosting Oakhaven’s failing tourist economy after digging up Sarah’s grave with no success in finding her body.
