In the made-for-television film Scooby-Doo in Arabian Nights (1994), produced by Hanna-Barbera, Scooby-Doo and Shaggy are hired as royal food tasters for the young Caliph upon arriving in Arabia on a magic carpet. Their insatiable appetites lead to no food being left for the Caliph and an angry reaction from him and the Royal Chef. In order to avoid getting caught, Shaggy disguises himself as a harem girl and catches the eye of the Caliph, who is searching for a bride. Believing Shaggy to be a woman, he decides they should be wed. Hoping to escape during their nuptials, Shaggy tells two stories to put the Caliph to sleep.
The ruler of the kingdom is concerned, as his son – known as The Prince – has yet to select a wife. In an attempt to resolve this issue, he summons all eligible women to gather at the palace the following day. However, The Prince becomes enamored with a young lady he spots by the river while she is doing laundry. She quickly flees upon realizing his presence, accidentally leaving her scarf behind. Meanwhile, Haman – the vizier – is plotting to seize power and learns of a mystical lamp hidden in a nearby cave that only appears every three years during a blue moon. This lamp is said to have healing powers that could aid the ill Sultan, but can only be retrieved by someone with a pure heart; in this case, Aliyah-Din – the woman who has captured The Prince’s heart. Haman tracks down Aliyah-Din and informs her of the lamp’s existence, claiming it can save the Sultan’s life. As The Prince continues his search for Aliyah-Din, many other women vie for his hand in marriage. On her way to meet with Haman, Aliyah-Din discovers news of The Prince’s impending bride selection ceremony taking place tomorrow.
