Scooby-Doo! Stage Fright (2013) is a direct-to-DVD animated musical comedy horror film, and the twenty-first installment in the Scooby-Doo series. The Mystery Inc. gang heads to Chicago, Illinois for a talent show called Talent Star, hosted by Brick Pimiento. Songwriting duo Fred and Daphne are finalists, while one of their competitors is Chrissy, a spoiled girl with noisy parents. They also befriend another finalist, Emma Gale, a violinist. However, the opera house where the show will be held is being terrorized by a Phantom who has a strong preference for Chrissy to win. Despite their efforts to catch him on surveillance cameras, the Phantom’s ability to appear in multiple places at once proves challenging for Fred, Daphne, and Velma. Shaggy and Scooby notice that he has an unusual lemon scent before splitting up with the group to search for clues. Along the way, Fred and Daphne meet Mel Richmond, the owner of the opera house, who reveals that thirty-five years ago it was plagued by another Phantom during its disco days.
The next day, the dress rehearsal begins. Fred and Daphne meet Emma’s parents, who are hoping to win the prize money to save their home from bankruptcy. During the rehearsal, most of the performers’ acts are sabotaged by an unknown person, leaving only Chrissy, Emma, and Fred and Daphne as remaining contestants. Faced with these attacks, Fred and Daphne devise a plan to use themselves as bait in order to catch the culprit behind it all. After some investigating, they encounter a man named Steve Trilby who turns out to be the original Phantom. Steve confesses that he vandalized the opera house because of his dislike for disco music but now he just returns for food. The gang then discovers that while they were gone, the Phantom has set fire to the opera house. With Steve’s help, they manage to capture the Phantom who is revealed to be Mel Richmond – a man attempting to collect insurance money from burning down the opera house.
